Daily Announcements for Davidson 10/15/2021
 

• Happy Birthday to Ariana Shelborne, Juno Dokey, Caitlin Widener, Makyah Graham, and Vanessa Muniz-Martinez!

 

• 7th and 8th graders - we have a few yearbooks left from the last 2 years.  We will be selling them for $5 cash each.  If you would like one, please come to the main office during lunch.

 

• Students who borrowed a chromebook today, please return it to Mrs. Sertage in the library immediately at the end of 6th hour, please do NOT take it home.

 

• Are you tired of staring at your phone at lunch time? Do you Like Trivia?  Then sign up for our Career Week Lunchtime Trivia Challenge on Tuesday - You and 2 or 3 of your lunch friends can form a team and sign up in the counseling office.  The Lunchtime Trivia Career Game will take place next week Tuesday during both lunches.

 

• Winter 1 Sports will start in November!  If you are interested in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade you are eligible to try out for Competitive Cheer and Swim.  If you are a 7th or an 8th Grade Boy you are eligible for Basketball.  Tryout dates are not yet confirmed, however, you will need to have an updated physical and Code of Conduct, dated after April 15, 2021, on file in the main office to try out.  Have your parents check today’s newsletter for sign up links!

 

• Listen up!  You don’t want to miss this announcement!!  Have you ever dreamed of pie’ing one of your teachers in the face, or how about Mrs. Tackett or Mrs. Hinzmann?  Well guess what - your dream could come true at our Halloween assembly on Friday, October 29th!  Raffle Tickets will go on sale next week during lunches for your chance to win, don't miss out on this opportunity! There are over 10 teachers participating so bring your money! Tickets are three for a dollar and can be purchased during both lunches on Tuesday!  The lucky winners will be announced at the assembly!

 

• Next week is College and Career week here at Davidson!  Get your college gear ready to wear all week to show us your favorite colleges and college sports teams!

 

• The Titan Soccer team battled a very tough Monroe squad yesterday.  Even though we lost 5-0, we showed a lot of improvement from the first time we played them.  Antonio Olvera played great defensively in his return to action after missing a few games due to injury.  Fellow 6th graders, Kamryn Chastain and Joy Schuck also fearlessly took on the much larger 8th graders from Monroe all day.  The Titans return to action next Tuesday at Allen Park.  

 

• Cross Country and Soccer practices are cancelled today due to the weather.  Football practice is still happening today, however, it will end at 4:15.  Please make sure your parents know.

• Happy Birthday to Karter McCutcheon and Evan Young!

 

• 7th and 8th grade students, if you are interested in joining the football team, please see Coach Barta in Room 14!   6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, if you are interested in joining the Cross Country Team, please see Coach Shiveley in room 34.   Even though practices have been going on, it’s not too late!

 

• Any 6th, 7th or 8th grader interested in joining Student Council this year there will be an informational meeting on Tuesday September 14th from 7:20 a.m-7:40 a.m in the Davidson Auditorium. Come on out and see what Student Council is all about! Any questions see Mrs. Vilardi in Room 43 or Mrs. McGraw Room 44.

 

• Mrs. Tackett and Mrs. Hinzmann are working on passing out chromebooks this week.  If you do not have your chromebook yet, please be patient, we are hoping to have them all distributed by the end of the day on Friday.

 

• Jammed and broken lockers are being worked on this week also.  We hope to have them all fixed before Monday.  If you are having problems with your locker and can not open it, please come to the main office and fill out a yellow slip if you haven’t already done so.

 

• There is a virtual meet and greet tomorrow evening with Mrs. Tackett and Mrs. Hinzmann for parents.  Please tell your parents to look for a reminder email this evening.  

 

• Students, please remember that your schedule can be found online through your MiStar account.  If you have a cell phone, we suggest taking a screenshot of your schedule so you will not lose it.

Boys Basketball:

For 7th and 8th grade boys interested in trying out for basketball this year:  

Basketball season is just around the corner.  Although we are waiting on a few more guidelines from the MHSAA, tryouts are technically scheduled for Nov. 5.  That means that you have to have a physical dated after April 15, 2019, a health questionnaire, and a code of conduct on file in the Davidson office before you tryout.  You will not be allowed to tryout out without these completed forms.

Tentative Tryout schedule: 

7th Grade:  Nov. 5- 3:30-5:00 and Nov. 6- 5:00- 6:30

8th Grade:  Nov. 5- 5:00-6:30 and Nov. 6 3:30-5:00  

 Swim: For 6th, 7th, and 8th graders interested in the Swim Team! We have a combined team with Lincoln Park and swim at Lincoln Park High School.  Once in-person school starts, there will be a 1 way shuttle bus from DMS to Lincoln Park High School, but you have to have your own transportation until then.
